The GWM Ora 5 SUV Is Coming To Christchurch

GWM has expanded the ORA EV range with the arrival of the new ORA 5 SUV, introducing a larger and more versatile electric vehicle to New Zealand.

The ORA range has traditionally focused on compact hatchback driving, but the ORA 5 moves GWM’s electric offering into a more practical and versatile space. With increased interior room, longer driving range, and intelligent features, the new ORA 5 is designed to suit the needs of modern New Zealand drivers.

A Larger, More Versatile ORA

Compared to the ORA hatch, the ORA 5 SUV offers more interior space and greater practicality, making it better suited to growing families and longer travel.

A longer wheelbase and increased ground clearance of 175mm provide a more comfortable and confident driving experience across a range of conditions, from Christchurch city streets to open Canterbury roads.

The exterior continues GWM’s signature ORA design with sculpted body surfaces, water drop-inspired LED headlights, and distinctive four-leaf clover wheels to give the ORA 5 a distinctive look and feel.

Fully Electric Performance With Greater Flexibility

Designed to balance efficiency, refinement, and usability, the ORA 5 SUV is powered by a 150kW electric motor producing 260Nm of torque to deliver smooth and responsive electric performance.

Paired with a 58.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, a driving range of up to 435km (WLTC), and DC fast charging enabling a 10 to 80% recharge in just 30 minutes, the ORA 5 brings confidence to daily driving and longer trips away.

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability further enhances versatility, providing up to 6kW of external power output to charge devices, power camping equipment, and support a wide range of everyday lifestyle uses.

This combination of driving range, charging capability, and fully electric performance positions the ORA 5 SUV as a practical addition to GWM’s growing EV line-up.

The ORA 5 SUV will launch in New Zealand in two model grades:

• ORA 5 Lux from $36,990 + orc

• ORA 5 Ultra from $39,990 + orc

Both variants introduce increased space, longer driving range, and upgraded technology compared to the previous ORA hatch, while maintaining GWM’s focus on accessible EV pricing.

The Ultra grade further adds features including a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated front seating, a heated steering wheel, electric tailgate, wireless phone charging, and a premium 9-speaker audio system.

Colour options also bring additional personality to the ORA EV range. The Lux is available in Cute Cyan, Emerald Green, and Pepper White, while the Ultra introduces additional finishes including Flamingo Pink and Crystal Black.

Technology Designed Around Everyday Use

Inside, the ORA 5 introduces GWM’s latest Coffee OS intelligent cockpit that provides drivers with over-the-air updates, voice control functionality, and GWM app connectivity  to support a user-friendly driving experience. The cabin combines a clean interior layout with practical technology, including a 14.6” touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity. Features such as wireless charging, heated and ventilated seating, ambient lighting, and dual-zone climate control are also available depending on model grade.
